WebTiles is a collaborative mosaic of the indie web.

WebTiles, a new website from Kicya, is a collaborative mosaic of the indie web.

The site features a grid of miniature websites called tiles. Users can claim a tile and upload their own images, HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create a 250 x 250 page.

I've spent the last few days tinkering with it to create a tile of my own. (And, admittedly, realised the limitations of my own design skills.)

Recently, a new feature dubbed clans was revealed. Clans allow users to buddy up and protect their tiles from being swapped as users hop to desirable spots near the center of the page.

Kicya describes WebTiles as an event, and it's currently unclear when or if this event will end.

However, what is clear is that the world of personal blogs, art showcases, indie games and web toys is thriving, and this new experience encourages that creativity to gather and mingle in one place.

Some notable tiles I've seen on the website so far include playable games like Minesweeper and Boundary Break, a shared drawing canvas and a whole corner dedicated to sharing your favourite albums.

Take a look for yourself and see what you can find.
